Cycling in the Peak District

There are so many great ways to experience the Peak District, but what could be better than the thrill you feel cycling through the charming villages and picturesque countryside we have here. The Peak District National Park is great for cyclists, and your bicycle gives you access to fabulous off-road trails for all levels and abilities.

Cycling routes for everyone

There are wonderfully flat, traffic-free trails ideal for families and novices. We love the Monsal Trail for its unique route that snakes through tunnels and cuttings, over viaducts and past historic buildings. The Tissington Trail is a pleasant ride which is almost entirely flat with small elevations now and then and affords a fantastic view of the countryside and its surroundings.

Adventurous bike rides

There’s no shortage of routes for the more adventurous cyclist. Enjoy satisfying climbs and exhilarating descents between natural landmarks and historic towns, and check out Visit Peak District’s list of routes for more information and inspiration.

Hassle-free bike hire

If you cannot bring your own bike, it is very easy to hire one from the visitor centres in Ashbourne, Derwent, Parsley Hay, and Manifold. If your own bike needs some TLC before heading off on a two-wheeled adventure, let the qualified and experienced mechanics at the centres take a look; they can do anything from small repairs to full services. Also, many of our Boltholes have dedicated bicycle storage, making it easy to keep your gear safe and secure.
