Picnics at Bolton Abbey
There’s not much that could match the delight of having a picnic on a sunny day. Bolton Abbey has acres of wonderful open countryside, so what better location to enjoy a picnic with friends or family? Social distance with peace of mind in fresh clean air whilst taking in the glorious views.
We are proud to have some of the best outdoor eating spots in the country, so why not pre-order one of our ready-made picnics? They’re filled with delicious fresh food from the Cavendish Pavilion and packed up in a cool bag, which is yours to keep. The only thing you need to worry about is finding the perfect spot to sit down, relax and tuck in.
There are idyllic spots by the River Wharfe and on the beached areas perfect to roll out a picnic rug. On the other hand, you will be able to find picnic benches in all of the estate car parks. The Bolton Abbey estate is spread over 30,000 acres so there’s room for everyone! You can find a space of your own and pitch up your picnic in peace.
After your picnic...
After you’ve eaten, there are endless trails to be explored, 80 miles to be precise! Depending on how adventurous you’re feeling there’s something for everyone to enjoy. From wonderful river walks, crossing over the iconic 60 stepping-stones or paddling in the water.
If you’re feeling up for a challenge, why not try the Valley of Desolation and Simon’s Seat walk, named after the great storm of 1826 which ripped down trees and caused a landslide. There are no signs of the ruins today, just a beautiful waterfall. The Valley of Desolation leads all the way up to Simon’s seat, a 485 meter peak with incredible views from the top on a clear day.
