What are The Heights of Abraham?
The Heights of Abraham is a 60 acre hilltop park on top of Masson Hill in Matlock, Derbyshire. Originally a lead mining site, the old caverns are now open for tours and there’s a Heights of Abraham cable car up to the lovely views at the top.
There are playgrounds and picnic areas for a spot of pre-packed lunch as well as the Terrace café with both indoor and outdoor seating. Explore the landscaped grounds, take a woodland walk or download the educational audio heritage tour. It’s a wonderful way to while away half a day and is located in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales in the village of Matlock.
Heights of Abraham Tickets
Heights of Abraham tickets include:
- Return Heights of Abraham cable car (also known as the Matlock Bath cable car) journey up to the summit which provides amazing views of the surrounding Derbyshire Dales
- Guided tours around two show caverns. You’ll learn more about the Matlock Bath caves and how they were formed over 350 million years ago. With each cavern holding a fascinating history — waiting to be explored
- Access to the willow sculpture trail which are focussed on representing The Heights of Abraham history and are all skilfully weaved by Caroline Gregson — renowned sculpture artist
- Tinker’s Shaft which was once the main access point to the working lead mine. It is now a viewing platform with fabulous views across the Derbyshire Dales
Heights of Abraham Prices
The site is open daily from March until November, between 10:00am and 4.30pm.
Tickets cost £22.00 per adult and £15.00 per child.
Heights of Abraham discounts are available for:

- Blue Light Card holders
- Max Card Holders
They also offer a 20% discount to those that travel by bus or rail. Bus or rail tickets must be presented on arrival.

Heights of Abraham Parking
There is no car park available on-site, so arriving by public transport is highly recommended if possible. There are four main car parks in Matlock which are all pay and display:
Matlock Bath Train Station – DE4 3NT
Temple Road – DE4 3NR
Pavilion – DE4 3NR
Artists Corner – DE4 3PS
Heights of Abraham by Train and Bus
Arriving by train is very accessible and the heights are a short walk from Matlock Bath train station, there are also frequent bus services from all major surrounding towns and cities. GET DIRECTIONS
