Meet the team – Devonshire Fell
Tell us about yourself...
Hi my name is Rob, I am the Night Duty Manager here at the Devonshire Fell! I have worked in the hospitality sector for 35 years now, hospitality management for 25 years and during that time I’ve worked in everything from nightclubs to cocktails bars to pubs to restaurants to hotels.
What brought you to the Devonshire Fell?
I was asked to help out with operation restart from our Managing Director, Richard after the first lockdown. I enjoyed working at the Fell and thankfully a full time position was offered!
What are your roles and responsibilities?
I’m a night time duty manager and normally start around 2-2:30pm. My first responsibility is to welcome guests and I have an important role to play being the first impression and point of contact for those arriving to the hotel. I prepare the hotel ready for dinner and look after dinner service, say goodnight to everybody and put the hotel to bed and make sure everything is ready for breakfast in the morning
Why do enjoy working in the hospitality sector?
Initially when I started out I was a bit of a showoff and enjoyed showing people a good time when they came out for dinner and as time has gone on I’ve honed my craft and enjoy all aspects of working in hospitality. No two days are the same and every day is a school day.
Describe your role in three words...
Whatever is required.
Do you enjoy working on the Bolton Abbey Estate?
Yes, I enjoy the commute it’s a beautiful drive in!
What advice do you have for anyone wanting to join the team?
There may be jobs closer to where you live but what you won’t get with them is the quality of life that you do like somewhere like here. We are very much a family and work 40 hours a week which is a rarity in this industry and very looked after!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I have an old house that I have enjoyed renovating and currently doing lots of gardening so at the moment I’m enjoying watching my garden grow – normally with a nice glass of prosecco!
